Happy Valentine’s Day!

In the midst of this seemingly never-ending, dreary winter, I think we could all use a little romance.

So, today, on Valentine’s Day, I offer you…..Sarah Vaughan…..

Ella Fitzgerald…..

Joe Williams….

And finally the most beautiful / sexy / romantic / lovesome song ever recorded. Coleman Hawkins & Tommy Flanagan…..

Whether you’re single or taken, whether or not you intend to go out tonight or stay in, remember to listen to some beautiful music today and enjoy yourself! (And seriously, if you listen to nothing else today, listen to the Coleman Hawkins! You won’t regret it!)

If you guys have never heard this CD, run, don’t walk and get it. Yes Chet died shortly thereafter but the first version of My Funny Valentine is just achingly beautiful. His voice is weaker but for me it just adds to his aura.

Thanks for introducing me to “Apache.” That is a beautiful track. Tommy is one of the best accompanists ever.

The version of “Apache” on Amazon cuts out Tommy’s beautiful intro. Do you know where I can find this one? Love the blog.

Billy Eckstine singing That’s For Me.The Coleman Hawkins cut is excellent, Thanks. Great playing by a great musician.
